Winter Tips

Keep your headlights clear

Keeping your headlights clear through this wintry mix of salt, slush and snow is simple!  All you need is to apply any type of car wax on your headlights and it will prevent this nasty mix to accumulate on your lights!  And it will last for weeks!  This works because car wax contains special water repellents!
Ice-proof your windows

Ice-proofing your windows this winter will be easy with this household item.  Vinegar!  That's right!  Just fill up a squirt bottle with three parts vinegar and one part water and spritz it on all of your windows at night.  It will keep them clear of the icy mess.  If you forget and your car is already frozen just spray the mixture on your windows and watch it melt.  Vinegar has acetic acid , which will raise the melting point of water in turn preventing it from freezing.

Prevent car doors from freezing shut

No need to turn up the heat!  Prevent car doors from freezing with this quick tip.  Spray a little cooking spray on the rubbers seals around your car doors and rub it in with a paper towel.  The oils in the cooking spray prevent water from melting in the rubber avoiding the snow melting during the day and freezing at night!

Squeak-proof your wipers

Keeping your windshield wipers squeak or streak free is simple!  All you need to do is wipe them down with rubbing alcohol or ammonia and wah-lah!  "These are solvents that can cut buildup of grease and grime, the main culprit that prevents wipers from working properly," says Sinclair.  "This one trick can make badly streaking wipers change to near-perfect clarity!"

De-ice your lock in seconds

De-icing your locks and staying germ free!  When your lock is frozen and you can't get your key in the hole all you need is a little hand sanitizer to get the job done.  Apply a small amount on your key and the lock and you're in!  Easy solution, huh!  Hand sanitizers contain alcohol, which happens to be in most commercial de-icers!  Just make sure your hand sanitizer contains at least 60% alcohol or it won't work.

Fog-proof your windshield

Keeping your windshield fog-free is easy if you have a little shaving cream on hand.  Just apply some on the inside of your windshield and wipe off with paper towels.  This should create a protective film on the glass that will prevent fogging.  Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.

Get unstuck from the snow

Get stuck in the snow and don't know how to get out.  Forgot the kitty litter or sand?  It's okay!  All you need to do is use one of your car mats.  Yes, that's right!  Simple!  After turning your car off, so there aren't any accidents, stick the rubber side of the floor mat under the tire that was spinning.  Turn the car back on and try it again!  This should provide you with enough grip to get you unstuck!
