Last night at the Muskogee City Council meeting many parents of football, soccer, and softball youths in the community showed up to protest the increase in fee's for use of the facilities at Love-Hatbox Fields. The City council voted increases in fees for use of the ball fields will not take effect until 2011. In 2011 the fee will go up from $2 per player per season to $5 per player in 2011, then by $1 per year until they reach $8 in 2014. Mark Wilkerson the Muskogee Parks and recreation director said the increase will be the first since 1983. David Jones Councilor said the fee increase does not amount to very much per player per game, 16 to 25 cents per game, depending on how many players are on the team. Wilkerson said he estimates the annual cost of operation of the soccer complex is $37,000 per year.
